FAQ - Life Coaching
What is Life Coaching?
Professional Coaching is an ongoing, strong partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Through the process of life coaching, clients forward and enhance their lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness, and fulfillment.
Professional coaches are trained to listen and observe, to customize their approach to the individual client's needs, and to elicit solutions and strategies from the client. They believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful and that the coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has. While the coach provides feedback and an objective perspective, the client is responsible for taking the steps to produce the results he or she desires.
How does it work?
Coaching sessions are conducted in person or by telephone, usually lasting 45 mins to an hour, 3 - 4 times per month. In each meeting the client chooses the topic or agenda for conversation. The coach listens and contributes observations and questions in order to provide clarity for the client. The coaching process provides a client with greater focus and awareness of choice.
Is Coaching really Therapy?
No, coaching is not and should not be confused with therapy. Coaching concentrates on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be in their lives.
What does the Coach do?
The coach's responsibility is to:
What does the client do?
The client sets the agenda, which is the heart of the session. Having a coach is like having your own best friend as a mentor and cheerleader - someone who has no agenda of their own to follow. The coach works in an alliance with the client to keep the focus on and achieve what the client wants.
What is the time commitment?
Most experts agree that the time it takes to change a habit is at least 21 days - change doesn't happen overnight! For that reason, most coaching relationships require a minimum commitment of at least 3 months in order for the client to achieve a desired outcome.
